Bradykinin is a peptide that causes vasodilation, leading to a decrease in blood pressure. A class of drugs called ACE inhibitors used to lower blood pressure increases the concentration of bradykinin (by inhibiting its degradation) and thus lowers blood pressure. Bradykinin acts on blood vessels by releasing prostacyclin, nitric oxide, and endothelial derived hyperpolarizing factors. Bradykinin is a peptide with physiological and pharmacological activity, and is one of the kinin class members of proteins, composed of nine amino acids.

Structure

Bradykinin is a peptide chain containing 9 amino acids. The amino acid sequence of bradykinin is Arg-Pro-Pro-Gly-Phe-Ser-Pro-Phe-Arg (RPPGFSPFR). Its chemical formula is C50H73N15O11.

Metabolize

In the human body, bradykinin is degraded by three types of kinases: angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), aminopeptidase P (APP), and carboxypeptidase N (CPN), which cleave peptide bonds at positions 7-8, 1-2, and 8-9, respectively.

What is kinin?

Kinin is a class of peptide substances with vasodilatory effects, involved in the regulation of blood pressure and local blood flow. Kinin is widely distributed in the body and can be divided into plasma kinin system and tissue kinin system. The normal human body has very little content of kinin, with plasma containing about 30 micrograms/milliliter, but its effect is very strong. Kinin releasing enzyme breaks down kininogen into kinin, so it is also known as the kinin releasing enzyme kinin system. Meanwhile, the activated kallikrein is inhibited by inhibitors in the plasma.
