General Description
Thymosin alpha 1 is a drug peptide used to treat chronic hepatitis B and enhance immune system responsiveness.
Thymosin alpha 1 is a highly conserved acidic peptide structure, mainly distributed in thymic tissue, especially thymic epithelial cells. In addition, it is also present in lymphoid tissue (such as spleen, lymph nodes) and non lymphoid tissue (such as lungs, kidneys, and brain), and its secretion and release are not regulated by other cytokines or release factors.
Structural characteristics of thymosin alpha 1
Thymosin α 1 is a linear peptide composed of 28 amino acid residues acetylated at the N-terminus. The molecule is rich in acidic amino acids (Asp, Glu) and basic amino acids (Lys), forming a stable alpha helix structure through charge interactions. The C-terminus is a free carboxyl group. Its spatial conformation is highly dependent on the salt bridge network within the molecule, which is a key structural feature for its binding and activity with immune cell surface receptors.

1. It was found that it can enhance mucosal immune barrier function by regulating the composition of intestinal microbiota, providing a new target for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.
