Bovine Collagen Peptide is a small-molecule protein powder extracted from bovine skin, bones, or connective tissue and hydrolyzed. Compared to regular large-molecule collagen, it is more easily absorbed and utilized by the body and is commonly found in nutritional supplements and food additives.
What exactly is it?
It is essentially hydrolyzed collagen, primarily sourced from bovine tissue. During production, enzymes are used to break down large chunks of collagen into smaller peptides, typically with molecular weights between several hundred and several thousand Daltons, such as the common 1000-3000 Dalton range. This process improves its solubility in water, eliminates any fishy taste, and results in a whitish or pale yellow color.
What are the advantages for absorption?
Regular collagen has a very large molecular weight (approximately 300,000 Daltons), making it difficult for the human body to digest, with an absorption rate of only about 3%. Bovine collagen peptides, after hydrolysis, can achieve an absorption rate of over 90% because these small molecule peptides can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream through the intestines. It is rich in type I and type III collagen, both of which are abundant in human skin, joints, and connective tissue.
