Angiotensin II is a peptide formed from angiotensin 1 under the action of angiotensin-converting enzyme. The main function is to constrict blood vessels, causing blood pressure to rise. Angiotensin II (AngII) is the main response factor of RAS. Its molecular weight is 104612 and it is an octapeptide.

There are three ways to generate angiotensin II. The first is the ACE pathway, which removes the two terminal amino acids from Ang I under the catalysis of ACE and turns it into angiotensin II. This is the main source of Ang II. The second is the gastric pathway. In the chymase pathway, in vascular tissue, ACE is mainly located in endothelial cells, while chymase is mainly located in the outer membrane. 70% of Ang II in human vascular tissue is catalyzed by chymase, and 30% is catalyzed by ACE. This indicates that vascular Tissue angiotensin II is produced primarily by the chymase pathway. The third is the non-ACE non-chymase pathway, which is mainly produced by angiotensin catalyzed by serine proteases such as cathepsin G, trypsin, and kallikrein.
