General Description
Carbetocin is a long-acting oxytocin nine peptide analogue with agonist properties
The clinical and pharmacological properties of carbetocin are similar to those of oxytocin. Like oxytocin, carbetoxine binds to oxytocin receptor of uterine smooth muscle and causes uterine rhythmic contraction. On the basis of original contraction, it increases its frequency and uterine tension. Therefore, carbetocin has no effect on non pregnant uterus, but it has effective uterine contraction effect on pregnant uterus and newborn uterus.
