Arginine vasopressin (AVP), also known as antidiuretic hormone, is an important neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It is a 9-peptide hormone secreted by AVP neurons in hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus (SON) and paraventricular nucleus (PVN). It is closely related to body fluid metabolism, blood volume, cardiovascular function, body temperature balance, learning and memory, and secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone. 

Argipressin  plays an important physiological role in the reabsorption of water, vasoconstriction, secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and memory. It can raise blood pressure, resist diuresis, participate in memory, limit fever and promote antipyretic. At the same time, it also has a wide range of cardiovascular functions, such as  regulating water and sodium retention and vasoconstriction, directly regulating myocardial cells, participating in cardiac hypertrophy, myocardial fibrosis, arrhythmia and so on. It has been successfully used in the treatment of vasodilative shock, cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation, diabetes insipidus and hemorrhagic diseases.
